Information

Recognition: The U.S. Department of Education recognizes Bishop Loughlin Memorial High School as a Blue Ribbon Exemplary High School. The school is chartered by the Board of Regents of the University of the State of New York and is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools.

Tuition: Tuition for the 2008-2009 school year is $7,000 which includes fund raising, Parents Association dues, gym uniform, calculator, and required class books. There is a separate $470 non-refundable registration fee.  Billing occurs monthly (over ten months) or quarterly (August, October, January and March).

Please be aware that the tuition charged is less than the actual cost of an education at Loughlin. While we would never expect a family to bear the full actual cost of tuition not covered by the tuition charged, fundraising efforts (the Fall Chocolate Drive = $100 and the Spring Raffle Book Drive = $40) reduce the gap between the actual cost and the tuition charged.  Support of these fundraisers is very deeply appreciated.

School Size: With an enrollment of approximately 850 young men and women, Loughlin is the ideal size for an effective high school program.

Parents: Most Loughlin parents want more for their children and make extraordinary sacrifices to send them to Loughlin. They view the school as a harbor of sanity and hope amidst the instability of urban life. There is an active Parents’ Association.

Textbooks: New York State provides textbooks in all areas except Religious Studies. Soft-cover books, workbooks, and laboratory manuals are charged separately.

Facilities: The school building includes Biology, Physics, and Chemistry labs, a Library with an automated circulation system and research computers, three Computer Labs,  Internet access, school web site, e-mail, Chapel, Guidance Offices, 36 classrooms and administrative offices, and a 1200 seat Auditorium. Our athletic facilities include a gymnasium, weight training facility, handball courts, outdoor track, softball field, and locker rooms for boys and girls.

Cafeteria Services: Students may bring lunch with them. The cafeteria offers a variety of hot and cold items for sale. The cafeteria also offers a breakfast menu.

Dress Code: A uniform dress code is in effect at the school. All uniform items are to be purchased at Ideal Department Store,1816 Flatbush Avenue, Brooklyn NY 11210. Ideal's telephone number is 718-252-5090.

ANCHOR Boarding School Program: Bishop Loughlin has partnered with ANCHOR, a nonprofit organization, to create an urban boarding school.  This program was established to offer underserved youth a powerful alternative to the overwhelming obstacles that jeopardize academic success. Although Bishop Loughlin is a co-ed school, the boarding program is only open to young men.  Participants in the program will reside in a dorm Sunday evening through Friday afternoon and will attend school with the day students.  If you would like more information about this program please click here.

Summer Program: All non Test of Admissions into Catholic High Schools (TACHS) test takers, SSP applicants and those scoring below a certain percentile on the Test of Admissions into Catholic High Schools are required to take part in the summer Head Start program to strengthen academic skills necessary for high school. There is a separate fee for this program. The program includes classes in Basic Skills, English, Mathematics, Study Skills and Reading. The purpose of the program is to familiarize students with the school as well as to have them think and learn using basic educational tools. The program also includes Enrichment Activities (basketball, track, volleyball, handball, paddle & table tennis, outings, videos, dance, as well as arts & crafts). Loughlin also sponsors a regular Summer School and Regents Examination Preparation program.
