It's not easy starting high school. There are lots of things to learn before classes start, So Loughlin spends three days getting the freshmen ready. Here's how it goes.
Day One
All students come in for their schedules. Upper class students show up only for an hour, but freshmen spend the whole day. In addition to schedules they learn about school rules, traditions, and expectations. Then they fill in those schedules...they have to wrangle with understanding how a 7 day cycle rotates in a 5 day week and how 7 class periods rotate in a daily schedule of 6 class periods. It isn't easy. See photos...
Day Two - Spirit Day
Now with the schedule clear it's time for lockers and locks. Reading instructions carefully is the key to learning how to open the locks. If that fails then there are plenty of teachers and student volunteers to help. Using the lock at your desk is one thing, using it when it's on your locker is another.
This year we had something special - house meetings. Student house leaders got their first experience running a meeting. They had to organize their members for the big event and build up team spirit.
Then it was off to the Spirit Day Games. The houses competed in relay races, jump rope contests and a tug of war. The winners were: Augustin in 1st place, Raphael in 2nd place, and Toussaint in 3rd place. Afterwards everyone was a winner at the outdoor barbeque. See photos...
Day Three
Time to run through the schedule, the whole of a Day 1 schedule in double time with every class lasting only 15 minutes. Freshmen get to know four floors of classrooms, meet their teachers, and hear more rules. Is your head spinning yet? See photos...
