Are you ready for HIGH SCHOOL?  There are lots of things to learn before classes start, but don't worry, after a three-day orientation, you'll be ready to go.

Day One: you'll find out about the Loughlin tradition, the school rules, and figure out how to get 7 classes in a 7-day schedule that rotates in a 5-day week. You also get a locker and a special Loughlin lock. Have fun learning how it works. You'll also find out what House you're in.

Day Two: Time for a little fun and compettion. Your house will compete in the Loughlin Spirit Day games. There is a three-legged race, relay races, jump rope, and the famous tug of war. That should build up a good appetite for the picnic lunch of burgers and dogs.

Day Three: It's your first day schedule on a fast track. You'll spend 15 minutes in each class and then move on to the next one. You'll scramble to find your classrooms. You'll also meet your wonderful teachers and find out what the class is about. You'll also hear each teacher's classroom rules.

See you on September 8, 9, and 10.

Jayvaughn Pinkston, forward on the Bishop Loughlin Varsity AA team, was selected to play in the McDonald’s All American Basketball Game for 2010. This game features the best high school players from around the country with only 24 boys picked from around 2000 nominees.

Mr. Pinkston is the first player from Bishop Loughlin Memorial High School to receive this honor.

Past teams have included many NBA players including Magic Johnson ’77, Michael Jordan ’81, Shaquille O’Neal ’89, Kobe Bryant ’96, and Lebron James ’03.

The Selection Committee is made up of the nation’s most knowledgeable high school analysts, prep scouts, high school newspaper reporters, and prestigious basketball coaches. Players have to make it through 4 rounds of ballots.

Part of the proceeds of McDonald’s All American High School Game go to support Ronald McDonald House and the Ronald McDonald Care Mobile. The houses serve 10,000 families per day giving them a place to stay when their children are in far-away hospitals. Families saved $226 million in hotel costs in 2007. The Ronald McDonald Care Mobile served over 100,000 children in 2007 with over 60% of them without health insurance. The Care Mobile saved families $10 million dollars in 2007.

Jayvaughn, who has made Villanova his choice for college, will play in the 2010 game on March 31, at 8:00 PM EST. The game will be played at the Value City Arena in Columbus, Ohio.
