Are you ready for HIGH SCHOOL?  There are lots of things to learn before classes start, but don't worry, after a three-day orientation, you'll be ready to go.

Day One: you'll find out about the Loughlin tradition, the school rules, and figure out how to get 7 classes in a 7-day schedule that rotates in a 5-day week. You also get a locker and a special Loughlin lock. Have fun learning how it works. You'll also find out what House you're in.

Day Two: Time for a little fun and compettion. Your house will compete in the Loughlin Spirit Day games. There is a three-legged race, relay races, jump rope, and the famous tug of war. That should build up a good appetite for the picnic lunch of burgers and dogs.

Day Three: It's your first day schedule on a fast track. You'll spend 15 minutes in each class and then move on to the next one. You'll scramble to find your classrooms. You'll also meet your wonderful teachers and find out what the class is about. You'll also hear each teacher's classroom rules.

See you on September 8, 9, and 10.

Loughlin Hosts Brooklyn Philharmonic 3rd Annual Student Chamber Ensemble Festival
Posted 03/18/2010 03:34PM

Bishop Loughlin Memorial High School has four ensembles participating in the 3rd Annual Brooklyn Philharmonic Student Chamber Ensemble Festival on Saturday, March 20, 2010. The program starts at 9:30 AM and ends at 2:00 PM.

Loughlin has a strong relationship with the Festival as it is not only hosted in Loughlin’s auditorium; it is also sponsored by Bishop Loughlin alum, Brian Connolly '73. Mr. Connolly, who never played an instrument himself, sponsors the Festival because he has a big appreciation for the place of music in an academic endeavor.

All of the ensembles that participate are given a master class by a member of the Philharmonic. This is a great opportunity and privilege that is much appreciated by the students. It’s a tough competition for Loughlin as most of its students here have started their instrument in high school while most of the students at the other participating schools have taken up their instrument at an earlier age.

A big thanks is due to Mr. Maffei, Director of Performing Arts, for his working tireously with the ensembles, who have been practicing four days a week since January, and with the Philharmonic to organize the festival.
