Are you ready for HIGH SCHOOL?  There are lots of things to learn before classes start, but don't worry, after a three-day orientation, you'll be ready to go.

Day One: you'll find out about the Loughlin tradition, the school rules, and figure out how to get 7 classes in a 7-day schedule that rotates in a 5-day week. You also get a locker and a special Loughlin lock. Have fun learning how it works. You'll also find out what House you're in.

Day Two: Time for a little fun and compettion. Your house will compete in the Loughlin Spirit Day games.There is a three-legged race, relay races, jump rope, and the famous tug of war. That should build up a good appetite for the picnic lunch of burgers and dogs.

Day Three: It's your first day schedule on a fast track. You'll spend 15 minutes in each class and then move on to the next one. You'll scramble to find your classrooms. You'll also meet your wonderful teachers and find out what the class is about. You'll also hear each teacher's classroom rules.

See you on September 8, 9, and 10.

Dear Parents, Alumni and Prospective Students and Families;

Christmas recess has come to a close and school has begun.   May 2009  be a year of favor for us all.  January is a busy month.  Students and teachers are preparing for mid-term exams scheduled for the week of January 26th.   A contingent of Loughlin students will be attending the Pro-Life march in Washington DC, January 22nd.  Our Campus Ministry staff will be finalizing the list of students attending our 3rd Kairos retreat the first weekend in February.

Our Performing Arts group is beginning rehearsals for their tour in March.  You may not know that the Loughlin Performing Arts group goes on an annual tour.  Most frequently they perform at other Lasallian high schools.   One great advantage of being part of a network of Lasallian schools is that we are members of a larger family.  There are fifty four secondary schools and seven colleges in the Untied States.

Upon reflection, our Lasallian charism adds great value to a Loughlin education.  The Lasallian youth group travels every summer to attend a youth service retreat where they are joined by students from 20 other Lasallian high schools.  This bond is matched on the professional level as well.  There are four national workshops for educators and one for Chief Administrators and Board members sponsored by the Lasallian national office.  These opportunities bring people who share a common vision of education together from across the country and sometimes internationally (Lasallian education takes place in 81 countries).

These activities are a great asset for students, faculty and staff to broaden their horizons.  Broadening horizons is at the heart of a solid education.  Our charism adds great value to a generic Catholic education.  For those of you making a decision about what high school to attend consider the value added by attending Loughlin.  Bishop Loughlin Memorial High School is 158 years old and shares in the 328 year tradition of John Baptist De LaSalle.  We have 18,000 alumni active in business, medicine, the legal profession and so many others.  Loughlin has been “Educating Leaders Since 1851.”

Live Jesus in our hearts!

Brother Dennis Cronin, FSC
President
