About Blessed Solomon LeClercq:
Solomon was born Nicholas LeClerq on November 14, 1745 in Boulogne-ser-Mer, Pas-de-Calais, France. He was the son of a wealthy wine merchant. Though his father wanted him to take over the family business, Solomon early discerned a call to religious life.
On 25 March 1767, he entered the novitiate of the Brothers of Christian Schools, and took the name Solomon. He was a good student and was recognized for his piety and deep prayer life.
Solomon spent several years teaching at various schools throughout France, and witnessed much of the political turmoil tearing his country apart. He became director of novices for his community and a frequent correspondent with his brothers and sisters on spiritual matters.
In the summer of 1792, Brother Solomon, along with many other priests and religious men, was imprisoned, and martyred at the garden of the Carmelite Convent in Paris as part of the suppression of Christianity of the French Revolution.
Solomon was named after King Solomon. Solomon was the third King of Israel, the successor and son of the Great King David. Solomon was a great king like his father. He has been accredited as the builder of the First Temple of Jerusalem. One of the qualities most accredited to Solomon is his wisdom. Solomon is also portrayed as a man of great wealth and power.
