Philosophy
Bishop Loughlin Memorial High School is a Catholic high school drawing its
Christian perspective from the Diocese of Brooklyn and the three hundred year
Lasallian tradition of the Brothers of the Christian Schools. This tradition
values a structured environment as a prelude to learning, growth and the
development of caring relationships grounded in Christian values. This tradition
holds central the appreciation of each student’s uniqueness, and views the
teacher as a minister of the Gospel.
Loughlin is a community of hope and stability for its students who daily
experience the many challenges of urban life. Stability is rooted in good order,
clearly proclaimed and justly secured through sound guidelines. Hope is fostered
primarily through caring adults sensitive to and keenly aware of the struggles
and unique challenges of adolescence.

The curriculum and atmosphere of Loughlin are designed to meet a wide range
of student skills, to foster student success and to challenge each student to
achieve full potential by striving for excellence. Loughlin attempts to awaken in its students a set of values which is markedly
Christian and challenges the materialistic values of today’s society. Loughlin
students are encouraged to fully develop their personal talents and are given
opportunities to use them in their service to others.
Loughlin provides an
atmosphere where respect for both self and others will grow as students meet
with success, resolve personal conflicts, and make responsible decisions and
value-choices.
Loughlin students, grounded in a solid education and a unique Loughlin
spirit, are expected to have profound respect for all people, to be generous in
sharing their gifts and talents, to make sound choices about the future, and to
be positive contributors to the growth and life of the community.
