Martin Luther King Jr. Assembly
1/18/2008

This year our guest speaker was Mr. Williams, known to one and all as Mr. Ring Man. Mr. Williams started is own company, G.I.D. Incorporated, and provides our school rings. Mr. Dan Cronin reminded us in his introduction that Mr. Williams once wasn’t such a welcome sight here at Bishop Loughlin – he was on the Monsignor McClancy basketball team. Mr. Williams went on to play on the All City Basketball Team and at Manhattan College where he made 1140 points in his first season as the number 2 shooting guard.

Mr. Williams started with everyone standing, clapping their hands over their head saying, “I am somebody" and ended with us all pledging to be leaders at home, at school, and in our communities. In between, Mr. Williams spoke about how Martin Luther King Jr. is an excellent role model for all of us, often illustrating his points with personal stories. Shortening Martin Luther King Jr. to MLK, Mr. Williams encouraged us to face adversity with the same courage as MLK, to be difference makers like MLK, to be leaders like MLK, to be dreamers like MLK.

The assembly began with a slide show tribute to Martin Luther King Jr. prepared by Campus Ministry and we were led in prayer by Elise Sutherland.
