On November 4, the Loughlin band was again in
place at Layfette Avenue, under the
charismatic direction of Mr. Louis Maffei,
playing "Rocky" for the New York City
Marathon. Loughlin was the first
high school band to play for the
Marathon and has done it every year since
except one when there was construction on
Lafayette Avenue and the route was changed.
Loughlin
is at the eight mile mark and it is a real
help for the runners to get an injection of
"Rocky" right when they're starting to
wonder "will I really be able to do this?"
One alum, Mark Payne, has played for every Marathon
with Mr. Maffei since 1979. Maybe next year the cheerleaders
will join the band. |
